TOPICS DOES THE COURSE COVER? / WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Unit 1: Creating Your Website
You need a website at the centre of your digital marketing efforts. Of course you can use social media and other platforms too, but you own your own website and as such have much more control over it. This is something that many people are scared by, but we show you how to quickly create a great looking (and working) website for yourself.
We use WordPress and talk you through everything you’ll need to do to get it set up, working and looking great.
After this unit you will have a website that you know how to run and maintain and edit.
- Introduction to Digital Marketing
- Installing WordPress
- WordPress backend overview
- Enfold Premium Theme
- Demo Import
- Editing your site
Like all the units on this course, this is very hands on and is designed to give you the confidence to do it for yourself. It is not rocket science and you CAN do it, we know you can!
Unit 2: Search Engines
If nobody can find you, do you even exist? Well of course you do, but search engines can be a confusing and even scary prospect for people to learn about. This unit breaks down how they work and what you can do to be visible on them.
We look at what SEO (search engine optimisation) is and, hopefully, make it a lot more accessible to you than you perhaps thought it was. This unit, like all the units on this course, aims to give you a solid foundation in how SEO works so that you can use it to your advantage.
We also introduce a plugin which will help you with a lot of the work that is involved with SEO.
- Introduction to SEO
- What is SEO?
- How do search engines work?
- What is a SERP?
- What is a keyword?
- Finding keywords – part 1
- Finding keywords – part 2
- How to use your keywords
- RankMathSEO plugin
Despite what you may have been told, like everything else about digital marketing, SEO is not massively complicated to get started with. Sure there are experts needed when you get to have huge ecommerce sites, but you absolutely can, and should, get started yourself. This course will help you understand the basics!
Unit 3: Content
What will people read / look at / listen to on your website?
Oh, yeah! Content, baby!
In this unit we look at creating content for your website which will also work for both search and social media. After all, if you can kill 2 birds with one stone, you absolutely should (this is a metaphor, please don’t actually kill birds).
- Introduction to content
- What is the purpose of your content?
- Content for search and social
- Finding assets
- Using images
- Source for great deals on content
Without content a website is like a cookie jar without cookies, ain’t nobody wants that! Your content isn’t only for people to drool over, it’s also to help search engines know what your page is all about, and it’s to encourage social media action too!
This unit will get you off on the right footing. We look at how you can get free assets to use for your content, and we introduce a source for finding great deals on content stuff too.
Unit 4: Social Media
Everyone uses social media these days, except Donald Trump who’s not allowed anymore, so your digital marketing probably should include social media too!
Of course, it’s easy to sit on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for hours and be amused / angry at all you consume, but that’s not helping your brand, products or services, is it? So, in this unit we look at using social media to build a smart digital marketing strategy, as opposed to using it for your recreational purposes (whatever they may be – no judgement here!)
- Introduction to social media
- Being the dealer
- Setting up the big 3
- Platform-specific strategy
- Growing your audience
Clearly in 2021, and beyond, social media is an essential part of life for many of us. This is unlikely to change anytime soon, so we will look at how we can benefit from the armies of people glued to their devices and at how we can avoid the trap of being glued to our devices ourselves!
Unit 5: Analytics
What good is doing all the work on your website, SEO, content, and social media but not having a clue what is actually working and what is not working? Or even worse, not even knowing IF it is working? That would be a bit rubbish, right? It would be worse than rubbish, it would potentially be expensive!
This unit will introduce you to concepts in analytics to help you recognise and measure things that are important to your digital marketing efforts. Each case is different and each case will have different metrics to consider, so this unit sets out to give you the foundational understanding of the what, where and when of analytics to give you the confidence to trust your measurements.
- Introduction to analytics
- Web analytics
- SEO analytics
- Twitter analytics
- Instagram analytics
- Facebook analytics
Analytics is perhaps the part of digital marketing that scares most people, but it needn’t. We look to make analytics much less terrifying and more cuddly, okay, maybe not cuddly, but at least accessible. Having confidence in the data available to you leads to you being able to make better decisions and better decisions lead to better results, it’s like a non-vicious vicious cycle!
